Request a Review

Update 9/9/2013! Authors, requesters, and other birds of a feather – we are terribly behind on requests. You are welcome to send in your request, but it might take us quite a lot longer than reasonable to look at it. Full disclosure. Chirp!

Update 03/29/2014! I’m making some headway through our backlog, but still criminally behind. Please note that while I’m reluctantly willing to consider YA novels (sci-fi and fantasy only), our preferences now lean much much more strongly in the regular Fantasy and Science Fiction direction.

Review Request Policies:

We consider review requests for books which have been published or are about to be published (ie, advance reader copies). For us, the term “published” includes:

  1. Books published through publishing houses
  2. Indie publishing (self and/or limited copy venues)
  3. EBook releases (as long as there is a copy available through a seller such as Amazon, Smashwords, or BN; please, no out-of-the-blue .doc attachments).

Please send review requests to ‘tcr.request@gmail.com’, and make sure your email includes:

  1. Who you are;
  2. How you came across our blog;
  3. The title and genre of your book;
  4. A brief blurb or description of the book;
  5. The book’s available formats (ie, how you plan to get the book to us);
  6. A sample from the book (a smashwords link or an amazon preview works too);
  7. Your twitter handle and website url (if available);
  8. And any other information you’d like us to have.
Approximate turn-around time for reviews: Variable from time of request. From time of formal acceptance, 1-3 weeks, depending on length and content.

Genres: We accept a variety of genres, among which are Fantasy, Science Fiction, Speculative Fiction, Literary Fiction, Romance, and Nonfiction (narrative, such as true-crime, science, travelogues, etc).**

**We will no longer be reviewing books in these, marked-out genres.

There are no review fees. (Though a friendly word or a kind tweet is always welcome!)

If you have any questions about our policies or the blog, don’t hesitate to leave us a comment or get in touch with us through our “Contact” form here. If you have a review request, send it to ‘tcr.request@gmail.com’.

Chirp!

    Do you want the eBook attached at the time of request?

  • Kori Miller

    Hello,
    I recently published an ebook of personal essays. The theme is primarily growing up interracial in America. It’s divided into four sections: grade school, high school, college, and adulthood. Do you review this type of work?

    Thank you,
    Kori Miller

    Thank you for the prompt response. I will re-read your requirements and send the necessary information via email.

    Sincerely,
    Kori Miller

    I found you on Simon Royl’s Indie’s Reviewer List. Do you review self published memoirs?

  • Linda

    I flew over here from Madison Wood’s Blog and happened upon this page too. I must admit, I love a good ‘reply’ and your’s is one of the best I’ve come across. Mine are normally to people requesting connections on LinkedIn who think ‘Hi, I’d like to add you to my network’ is the introduction you’d make if they met you in a coffee shop. Thanks for making me smile so early on a Friday Morning :-)

    Hello, Lucinda here from Goodreads, where i heard of you via a post from Canary. I’m very interested in requesting a review for my ebook which is just out. I’m sending you an email.
    I think though there are various readers offering reviews, they all seem to have such backlogs that in practice it can be difficult getting one. Ive been really lucky with the ratings so far, though, so I shouldn’t whinge.

    Hello,
    I’m a newly published writer seeking reviews for my novel. It is available on Amazon, but not in E-book form. Would you accept a PDF of my work?

    Thank you,
    Gerhard Conradie

    I am preparing to send you a review request. My only question for you pertains to point #6 on your list of requirements when submitting a request: We are in the process of uploading the novel to Amazon and I do not know if there will be a sample from the novel included there (my co-writer is taking care of that and I haven’t asked him yet if we can do that), so would including a file of the novel (MOBI, EPUB, PDF…whichever you prefer) suffice? I loved reading the reply email that you send to people if they don’t follow your instructions, but believe me when I say I don’t want to end up receiving one in my inbox after I send our request to you! :)

  • Brian

    Wow, thank you for the quick reply! Okay, I will include an epub file with my request. Thanks again! :)

    I just want to say thanks for reviewing books and doing a darn good job of it.

  • Helen Taft

    Hi, Ack! I submitted a review request and thought I’d been so careful to get everything right as per this policy, then today, I checked back and realised that I sent a sample as a .doc. *headdesk* Humble apologies, I thought the prohibition related to the whole novel only and didn’t consider the sample would be as per the same requirements. Is it too late to resend the original email with the sample in a different format? (I did mention that the usual preview is available on Amazon).

    Thanks, HW Taft (author of Gehenna)

Chirp! What do you think?
