“Canary, would you review my book?”
Review Request Policies:
We consider review requests for books which have been published or are about to be published (ie, advance reader copies). For us, the term “published” includes:
- Books published through publishing houses
- Indie publishing (self and/or limited copy venues)
- EBook releases (as long as there is a copy available through a seller such as Amazon, Smashwords, or BN; please, no out-of-the-blue .doc attachments).
Please send review requests to ‘tcr.request@gmail.com’, and make sure your email includes:
- Who you are;
- How you came across our blog;
- The title and genre of your book;
- A brief blurb or description of the book;
- The book’s available formats (ie, how you plan to get the book to us);
- A sample from the book (a smashwords link or an amazon preview works too);
- Your twitter handle and website url (if available);
- And any other information you’d like us to have.
Genres: We accept a variety of genres, among which are YA, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Speculative Fiction, Literary Fiction,** Romance, and Nonfiction (narrative, such as true-crime, science, travelogues, etc).**
**We will no longer be reviewing books in these genres.
There are no review fees. (Though a friendly word or a kind tweet is always welcome!)
Please Note: If you don’t read these guidelines and include the information we request in your soliscitation, this will be the form reply you will receive. You have been warned.
If you have any questions about our policies or the blog, don’t hesitate to leave us a comment or get in touch with us through our “Contact” form here. If you have a review request, send it to ‘tcr.request@gmail.com’.

Do you want the eBook attached at the time of request?
June 29th, 2011 at 4:34 pm
Either works. We officially accept a book request when we send a reply letting the author know we’re on it. The eBook can be sent to us then, or before.

Hello,
I recently published an ebook of personal essays. The theme is primarily growing up interracial in America. It’s divided into four sections: grade school, high school, college, and adulthood. Do you review this type of work?
Thank you,
Kori Miller

Hi Kori; we’d be happy to take a look and consider it for review if you send us more information about the collection.

Thank you for the prompt response. I will re-read your requirements and send the necessary information via email.
Sincerely,
Kori Miller

I found you on Simon Royl’s Indie’s Reviewer List. Do you review self published memoirs?
September 6th, 2011 at 10:59 am
We tend to not read memoirs, but we have done a few. If you’d like to send us your pitch, we could decide from there.

I flew over here from Madison Wood’s Blog and happened upon this page too. I must admit, I love a good ‘reply’ and your’s is one of the best I’ve come across. Mine are normally to people requesting connections on LinkedIn who think ‘Hi, I’d like to add you to my network’ is the introduction you’d make if they met you in a coffee shop. Thanks for making me smile so early on a Friday Morning

Hello, Lucinda here from Goodreads, where i heard of you via a post from Canary. I’m very interested in requesting a review for my ebook which is just out. I’m sending you an email.
I think though there are various readers offering reviews, they all seem to have such backlogs that in practice it can be difficult getting one. Ive been really lucky with the ratings so far, though, so I shouldn’t whinge.

Hello,
I’m a newly published writer seeking reviews for my novel. It is available on Amazon, but not in E-book form. Would you accept a PDF of my work?
Thank you,
Gerhard Conradie

Thanks for the question. Yes, we accept all the usual suspects.

I am preparing to send you a review request. My only question for you pertains to point #6 on your list of requirements when submitting a request: We are in the process of uploading the novel to Amazon and I do not know if there will be a sample from the novel included there (my co-writer is taking care of that and I haven’t asked him yet if we can do that), so would including a file of the novel (MOBI, EPUB, PDF…whichever you prefer) suffice? I loved reading the reply email that you send to people if they don’t follow your instructions, but believe me when I say I don’t want to end up receiving one in my inbox after I send our request to you!

Chirp! Thanks for the question – if you don’t have a sample online (on amazon, or on a blog), it’s fine to include it as a pdf or epub file.

Wow, thank you for the quick reply! Okay, I will include an epub file with my request. Thanks again!

I just want to say thanks for reviewing books and doing a darn good job of it.
